Basic Instructor Course (BIC)

The Basic Instructor Course (BIC) is designed to train healthcare professionals to become instructors for basic life support (BLS) and other basic resuscitation courses. This course is essential for ensuring that instructors are well-prepared to teach and facilitate learning effectively.

Basic Instructor Course (BIC)

Course Objectives and Structure

The BIC aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to:

  • Understand the principles of adult education.
  • Deliver effective teaching sessions.
  • Facilitate learning in small groups.
  • Conduct assessments and provide constructive feedback.

The course typically includes:

  • Pre-course e-learning: Participants complete online modules covering theoretical aspects of adult education and resuscitation.
  • Face-to-face training: This involves two days of practical sessions where participants engage in interactive workshops, simulations, and teaching practice.
Practical Course Component

During the practical sessions, participants will:

  • Learn and practice various teaching methods.
  • Facilitate simulations and role-playing exercises.
  • Conduct assessments and provide feedback to peers.
Application Process and Certification

To enroll in the BIC, candidates must:

  1. Complete a provider course: Candidates must first complete a provider course such as BLS or PBLS.
  2. Be recommended as Instructor Potential (IP): During the provider course, candidates are identified and recommended by the faculty as having the potential to become instructors
  3. Attend the BIC: After being recommended, candidates are invited to attend the BIC.

Upon successful completion of the BIC, participants become Instructor Candidates (IC). They must then teach on two provider courses as ICs within two years to achieve full instructor certification.

Benefits and Continuing Education

Successful completion of the BIC provides several benefits:

  • Certification: Participants receive a certificate recognized across Europe.
  • Professional Development: The course enhances teaching and facilitation skills, contributing to professional growth.
  • Networking: Participants join a community of instructors and educators, providing opportunities for collaboration and support.

The BIC is crucial for maintaining high standards in resuscitation education, ensuring that instructors are well-equipped to teach life-saving skills effectively.
